Mindfulness practice is now found everywhere - in schools, corporations, jails and even in Congress. However, many of us don't really understand what mindfulness is and how the practices can help those in the helping professions cultivate greater balance and compassion so we can continue our important work without becoming depleted. This workshop will introduce mindfulness as a tool for educational professionals to practice self-care and to sustain their positive intentions and passions, thereby promoting professional sustainability which in turn, works to support all students. It is not a session that will teach participants to teach mindfulness to their students or clients. Instead, it will cover basic mindfulness practices, and if time, a discussion of how mindfulness can help cultivate wise emotional responses. Most importantly, the session will include plenty of time to practice and experience mindfulness.

Participants will acquire mindfulness skills and ideas to create a personal practice
Participants will learn how pausing and mindfulness can build resilience for both staff and students
